Park | Mitis River Park
The Mitis River Park is located just a few steps from Reford Gardens on the west bank of the Mitis River in Ste-Flavie. The Park is a conservation area and ecotourism site that offers visitors an opportunity to explore the ecosystems of the St. Lawrence estuary and the ancient forest on the banks of the Mitis River. The Park also initiates visitors of all ages to the environment through a dozen unique wooden platforms and architectural installations. Enjoy a walk in the wood, a stroll along the beach or follow one of the discovery pathways that traverse this 40-acre site. A new observation tower is a masterpiece of construction in wood and offers breathtaking views of the St, Lawrence and the surrounding landscapes. The Park has a large playground area for children and picnic areas in both the shade and full sun. The Park is an ideal spot for a short rest or to allow your children to stretch their legs and enjoy their first contact with the St. Lawrence and its shoreline.
Exhibitions
Come to see our new exhibition “Moving Giant – the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Ecosystem”. This exhibition is intended mainly for young visitors ages 9 to 14. The Mitis River Park is using a fun and educational approach to acquaint young people with this amazing ecosystem, encourage them to appreciate and respect it and take concrete steps to help protect it. It’s a hands-on exhibition, designed to reach out to young people, grab their attention and inspire them. The whole experience is designed to take them on a real “expedition” through the ecosystem.
Camping
Are you looking for a beautiful place to camp for a day or two? The Park has 10 new campsites with 12 x 12 wooden platforms equipped with cables to attach your tent - 4 platforms near the St. Lawrence River and 6 in the forest. Two sites come equipped with a 4-man Mountain Equipment Co-op tent ready to be occupied. Dry toilets, water and firepit nearby.
