Every garden needs a shed and a lawn!

Domestic gardens are places we intrinsically understand – if it has a shed and a lawn, why then, it must be a garden. In fact we are so used to knowing what a garden is, that modern let alone conceptual gardens provide us with a challenge. These gardens demand more of us, the viewer, and there are layers to be read and interpreted. Designed for the tenth anniversary of the Festival in 2009, Every garden needs a shed and a lawn! presents ten elements of garden design that perhaps explain some of the many layers that gardens consist of. This dissected garden, displaying its component parts, is also a secret tour of a garden which allows the visitor to linger in each shed and reflect upon the meaning hidden in a garden. Conceived with humour, the installation features water, seeds, soil, clouds, carbon, pollination, concept, light, food, beauty. For this edition, amessage hidden in each of the 10 sheds leads us on the trail of a secret garden with red outlines and strange stones...
