bois de biais
Clearly delineated paths provide two ways of entry into the garden, one parallel to the plantings, the other at an angle, leading the visitor into, through, and around the forest/garden, to a clearing in the woods, a green room, an intimate place to sit and rest. By pushing the boundaries of their allotted site, dislodging it and invading the adjacent spaces, the designers seek to create momentary confusion – where is the garden, the site, the landscape, the forest? Here they have reaffirmed the power of vegetation alone to transform a space, and advocate that gardens are a place of movement and evolution rather than a fixed image.
