Doug Moffat, Steve Bates
Douglas Moffat trained as a landscape architect and has worked in offices in Montréal and Vancouver. His work explores the ground where sound and the built landscape collide. Including field recordings, electroacoustics, and landscape architecture, his projects aim to take musique concrète to its natural architectural conclusion – building spaces to be listened to. He has presented works at the Send + Receive: A Festival of Sound and the Placard project during the 2006 Mutek festival. Steve Bates is a media artist, musician, technician, and sometimes curator. His interest lies in experimental forms of organizing sound into improvised and composed music, radio, and installation projects. He is the founder and was director for eight years of the Winnipegbased Send + Receive: A Festival of Sound. He currently lives in Montréal, where he is the sound coordinator at Hexagram Institute for Research/Creation in Media Arts and Technologies at Concordia University.
