Crabapple Garden

The Crabapple Garden is one of several parts of the garden that is home to varieties of these enchanting trees. Many of the species in our gardens are Rosybloom hybrids, developed in the 1920s at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa. They bloom a soft pink or crimson red for a week to ten days in the beginning of June. To preserve the older varieties now approaching the end of their natural life, we have undertaken a program to graft many of them - one aspect of the renewal and constant vigilance which a historic garden requires.
